*GROAN* … who's calling before 5 AM? September 21, 2005
Posted by Amber D. Evans in : Reflections, Chico CA , add a commentIt was 10:30 PM. I had just thrown on my PJ's and flopped across my bed to pet Torchy, my tubby tabby cat. Next thing I know, the phone's ringing and I'm muttering from beneath the darkness of the covers, "Who the hell is calling before 5 o'clock AM?"
I dig my way out from under the sheets and am blinded by the cataloupe orange glow of a well-risen sun. I'm confused. I look at my clock while answering the phone. It's my husband, and it's 7:00 AM. "What are you still doing at home?" he asks. Indeed, what am I still doing here?
I TOTALLY overslept and missed my 1.5 hour swim workout. ARGH! And I had to be at work in less than an hour. I'm still not really awake and it's nearly Noon. I hate mornings like that.
It really doesn't help that I'm also a little achy and sore from lifting weights yesterday. I had forgotten what sore muscles really feel like. I've been experiencing fatigue and trembling at times, and a good burn, but not actual lactic acid soreness. This morning reminded me all to well of it!
I'm bummed, too, because I must get some swimming in this week. Now I have to squeeze an hour in at lunch, and it's always so much harder to train without my coach. I tend to take swimming too easy without someone telling me what to do and how hard to push. No wonder it's my toughest area to work on.
Oh, well. Do what I can, whenever I can. At least I know it'll finish waking me up!
I be a running fool after all …
Posted by Amber D. Evans in : Reflections, Chico CA , add a commentToday rocked! I got my gal pal, Sam, back from the clutches of
her visiting boyfriend and dragged her lily-white-butt to the gym with
me this morning. The plan: 60 minutes of running, and ~30 minutes
of arm and core weights to follow.
And rocked that plan we
did! I've got some serious improvement in this past week
alone! I haven't been running all that much more, but my cycling
has been incessant (8 days running) and has involved a lot of leg
power. In the past, I've been excited to run 30 minutes non-stop
at 5.0-5.5 mph. Today, I blew that away! I "breaked" no slower than 4.5
mph, ran no slower than 5.0 mph, and even sprinted up to 7.5 mph.
Sweet! Granted, it's a treadmill, but it's still the best I've ever done on a treadmill! Check out my stats if you want all the info. Overall, totally awesome morning! I love starting the
day like this!

Weights
Lots of arms and core lifting. I left my log in
my gym locker, but I do recall how surprised I was at how much stronger
I am since the last time I lifted weights (~2 months ago). The
only area in which I was weaker today was in my core strength
(abs, lower back). Surprising overall. There's no doubt
that swimming has made a huge difference in my arms and upper body and
back strength.
Overall
Totally awesome morning! I love starting the
day like this!
