The "Run"

Synopsis

Overall

"Darn these pants!" I exclaimed loudly within 5 minutes of running. I got a whole bunch of new workout gear for Xmas, and all of it fit just fine as of two weeks ago. But I've lost another 5 lbs. and apparently that seems to make the difference between a size Medium and a Large at this stage. I am glad, but these pants don't have a drawstring waist; I'm considering attaching velcro and/or sewing my own drawstring into them. They're a nice stretchy black yoga-type pant, so they're really perfect for running around here, and they're fashionable to boot. Definitely worth keeping.

The power walking itself was actually much harder than I thought it would be. First, it was a struggle to get my heartrate into a zone that would be considered aerobic. I found that pumping my arms really helped make up that difference, but then I found myself horribly uncoordinated. It was really kinda' tough to sync my pumping arms with the stride of my legs. I felt like I was swinging all the junk in my trunk all over the place. At one point, I glimpsed my shadow and realized that I kinda' looked like J. Lo with rounded parts sticking out all over. Oh, well. At least I was getting a workout doing it, and no one else was around save for my dog and he was only interested in the presents left by past puppies.

So me, my J. Lo shadow, and puppers set out for a 5-mile walkathon. It went well enough. I had a chance to hear and see the trail unlike before. There's lots of fat, little brown birds and some weird-looking brownish-gray squirrels here. I think I even saw a hedgehog, although I'm really not sure. All I know was that it was big and looked kinda' pointy all over. He saw me, I saw him, Calen saw him, Calen lunged, I held ground, and Mr. Pointy dove down into a hole in the ground. The thing was the size of a large cat, I tell ya'. The things I miss when I go running …

I also have to say that different muscles become aggravated. Normally, my glutes, lower back, and toes begin to ache by the end of a run. During the walking, a burning started to occur in a line that started at the outside of my hip all the way across the front of my quad. Even my inner thigh feels more used. And this time, my heels–not my toes–ache. Crazy stuff. Overall, I might have to try this power walking thing more often. Seems to be a good crosstraining option.
