The Run

Synopsis

Overall

Could I do 6 miles? I wondered. I looked outside and thought I saw little bits of swirling white. "Is that snow?" I asked aloud. Josh wrapped his arms around me and nodded in response, all the while nuzzling his nose into the nape of my neck.

"Ugh. What time is it?" I craned my neck to see over Josh's head to check the clock, "Oh, it's 11:30 AM. Geez, the day's half over." Josh's only answer was an incoherent mumble and sigh.

And so the day slowly started. I delayed the run for as long as I could, hoping the weather would shift in my favor. Hoping there was laundry to be done, or chores needed doing. I managed to delay until 1:00 PM when Calen decided to inform me that we needed to go running. Once his whining starts, it's useless to protest. If he decided it wasn't too cold, then I can't complain, although I pointed out to him, "You already have a fur coat, silly."

And so off we went. It was a good run, but since I haven't been really steady with my workout schedule or times, I started out too fast (9:15/mi.) and was having to re-adjust my pace so as not to find myself gasping every 5 minutes. Calen wasn't helping. He wanted to RUN and he kept looking back at me with his puppy face that pained, "Mom, you're going too slow!" It was a tug-o-war the whole 6 miles. If I could trust other people and their dogs I'd happily take him off-leash; he always stays within sight. But it's still a new area, a new place, and I don't care to risk it, yet.

All-in-all, I think my right bicep is considerably fatigued, my left hip feels some strange shadow pangs from the last power-walking session, and I got a tiny blister on my second toe of the right foot. But it was by no means a bad run and I found it to be enjoyable and even encouraging! It certainly wasn't as miserable as I dreaded it to be. Sometimes, I think I should just put my faith in my training and simply GO! Damn the weather and long live my runs!
