The Swim

Synopsis

Overall

Swimming is kinder to the body than running. I really enjoyed my swim time today. It felt so cool and relaxing. It probably should have been hard and intense, but my hip hasn't been feeling well and I just wanted to work on a LSD swim today. I didn't quite do that, but hey, I'm just getting back into the swing of things, so no biggie if it isn't all consecutive just yet. But, I worked on my stroke. I concentrated on lengthening, pushing water well past my hip, rotation, and NOT tucking my chin into my chest (but not poking up, either), just keeping it crested somewhere in-between (courtesy of Libor). At one point, swimming felt absolutely effortless. Now, if only the flip-turns felt that way, too! Ha, ha. I swear, that's where I lose all my oxygen. It was a great swim, though. I really wish I finished work and paying bills earlier in the day so I could've spent more than 45 minutes in the water. Oh, well. At least I got to go and I got to do it fairly well!

Racing as something bigger than me.

I am training to race in an endurance event–like which of us isn’t? But this time, I’m doing it as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training.

I’m participating as part of the local chapter in Blacksburg, and all of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I’m completing the Breezy Point Sprint (Norfolk, VA) in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers.

Do you know anyone battling a blood cancer? Sadly, I know some people that are, but they are fighters! You probably know one or two of those brave folks as well. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! Wouldn’t that be swell?

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society’s mission. I’m not asking for much; a one-time donation of your daily Latte or Whey Protein smoothie is all I’m suggesting. You can save that “Grande, No Whip, Nonfat, Sugar-free, Splash of Soy, White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino Light Blended Coffee” for tomorrow. ;D

Thanks for your time, and (hopefully) your donation!

Sincerely,
Amber D. Evans
