Overall
Good Swim today; I'm not missing running, yet. In fact, I don't miss running at all. Of course, that probably still has something to do with my hip. I'm supposed to run in the Groundhog Scurry this weekend, but I don't think that is likely to happen. I'll wait until Friday night before I make that final decision. It's only a 6-miler … and I could use the miles. If I do it, it will only be at a slow jog pace, between 10:00-11:00/mi.
However, swimming is quickly becoming my best friend again. I'm surprised at how much it's coming back to me, although I have my moments where I literally have to stop in the water and restart because my timing and coordination gets off. It must be funny to watch! Overall, I'm doing great. I'm starting to feel relaxed again and breathing is becoming natural. My arms aren't sore, but they do feel the efforts put forth!
I also met some of the other regular swimmers that are there during the early-afternoon. One of them was close to my age, has a thick (local) accent, and is a really fast and good swimmer. She reminds me a lot of my sister, Diana. Her name is Holly and we shared a lane. She was really chatty, but not in a bad way and if I was to be stuck on a plane with her next to me, I wouldn't mind a bit. She's there a lot, so I'm likely to see her again. And then there's Judy. I've seen her at the center since I started swimming again. She an older lady, but really nice, and not too talkative. Although, she will happily hold a conversation if we're outside of the lanes (makes good sense to me). We got to talking by our cars and I learned that she's from Iowa (where's that, again?) and she and her sisters and their daughters would like to do a triathlon someday. I told her a little about my experiences and encouraged her to give a Sprint a Tri.
Speaking of triathlons, a lot has gone down in the past couple of days in my personal life and not all good stuff. Finances are really tight right now, and it's likely to be this way for a little longer than we both hoped. So, it's looking like the 10 events I wanted to do (tri and non-tri, fun and races) between February and September are very likely to be pared back to only two, maybe three if I'm lucky. That sucks. Ehhhh … well. The sacrifices we make. There's always next year and the rest of my life, of course. Worth the wait.
And talking of waiting, where's the food? All this swimming … I'm tired and HUNGRY! Feed-me time (again)! Yum! Food!
Speaking of food, I made the most delicious Rice and Sweet Onion casserole tonight. Double-Yum! Some rice, vidalia and red onion, celery, garlic, Shitake mushrooms, vegatable broth … I added a little low-sodium, reduced-fat pork to it, to, and that was just what was needed (in terms of taste)! Baked and then topped with freshly grated romano and percorino cheese. Oooooooo. Drool-worthy! Hard not to take thirds.
Happy day. I hope you had a happy day, too!
