The Swim

Synopsis

Overall

Open Rec Day at the Pool is a disaster! I will NEVER go to the aquatic center again on a known open rec day! The children are unruly, LOUD, and I dare say even disrepectful of the swimmers who were there. And where are these kids' parents? Grrrr …

This makes me really not like kids. How hard is it for them to understand that they have their own rec/play area sectioned off in the pool? They don't need to be swimming across the lap lanes (which are acutally roped off and designated for lap swimming). They don't need to be darting in and out of the lanes, hanging from the ropes, or floating in the middle of my lap lane. They most definitely should NOT be diving off the diving board into the lap lanes, either. I nearly got nailed by some 7-year-old. I scolded that kid and at least he and his friends stayed out of our lane from then on. (But he continued to risk the safety of other swimmers in the other lanes). I'd have hoped the two lifeguards would enforce some rules, but those teenagers were too busy chatting it up with friends to be of any use to anybody. I wouldn't have been too surprised if somebody had drowned and no one noticed.

So aggravating. It was so bad that Josh quit after 2 laps and I threw in the towel (almost literally) after only 400 yards. At least I know Monday through Saturday is good. Phew!
