Synopsis
- Upshot: I more than made up for missing the morning spinning.
- Downside: I missed the morning's two-hour spinning class.
- What I'm most proud of: I busted ass in there today.
- What I would do differently: Not push too much past my crazy 181 heart rate (get's a little dizzy).
Overall
I missed the morning spin class. That's not a good way to start my metric century training, is it? Well, no biggie. I just didn't get a reservation in time, and I'm just not that dedicated to getting up 45 minutes earlier to fight for one of the remaining 12 bikes. So, I thought I'd just catch an afternoon spin session. Try something and someone new.
OMG. Lauren kicked my butt, and I swear she barely broke a sweat. I LOVE being out of the saddle. I could go days up and out of the saddle. This was the only time that I doubted that I could really withstand being up and out of the saddle for so long. Nearly 35 minutes of it. That begins to burn at some point, but it was awesome. I did the whole thing. I was sweating bullets even after two bandana changes (ewwwwwww) and I was sucking up the water. It was very challenging, but a lot of fun. The only scary thing was that my heart rate was 181 bpm at some points. That's that crazy lightheaded stage for me. I almost thought I might pitch off my bike at one point. I guess that's about when I should ease off a bit, doncha' think?
In the end, I loved it, but for a very different reason that I love the 2 hour morning spin class. The afternoon class was intense, like speed play. The morning class is grueling, like an actual ride, but even tougher because of the mental factor. Maybe I can mix them up more often? I actually wish I could survive doing both in a day, because I'd happily do that. I just don't think I could–or should. What do you think?
