Have you ever had a foot arch cramp? March 27, 2006

Unrelated to the title, but it appears the new blog sends emails to the blog owner as part of the commenting system.  I don’t know if we all want email addresses floating around (now I know your email address, Lisa!), but then again, it’s easier to reply privately …

Back to the foot cramp, though.  I think it came from the Cardio Boot Camp class I took on Saturday.  I liked the Cardio Boot Camp class.  It was jumping, hopping, lunges, squats, and punching.  Yesterday I thought, I’m kinda’ sore.  Today I’m thinking, I’m REALLY REALLY sore.  My calves are so tight I’m limping around, as my achilles heel and hamstring are also cramped.  Even the arches in my feet need constant stretching.  (And I thought being a triathlete made me in shape!)  Thank goodness I only did a half-hour.  The small amount of cycling yesterday was probably the only thing keeping me from being completely rigid by afternoon!
Unrelated, my bruised knee from falling over in my clipless pedals is huge, blue, and swollen.  I pretty much can either keep my knee bent or keep it straight.  It does not appreciate any of the inbetween actions en route to the other.  I also have an annoying bruise on my hip and elbow to match.  Being a tired and beaten-up pansey, I am taking today off and am going to work on my M.S. Project evaluation instruments (read: surveys), watch movies, and take naps.  After such a strenous day as just described, I’ll also be taking tomorrow off from the morning spinning (*gasp*) and will play it by ear by afternoon.  I will most likely opt for swimming if I’m not feeling much better.  I’m such a klutz sometimes!

The Cycling

Synopsis

Overall

I had a good time, but … things weren’t quite in alignment for me today. Good news first: I loved the weather and company. Bad news: The ride was too short for my liking and the pace was very relaxed. The only “push” was a quick sprint up the Centennial Loop hill which I cruised up at 21.8 mph. That’s pretty sweet, I have to say. It’s a first and a great indicator of how far I’ve progressed since last year. And while my HR jumped up to 183 during that stint, I still could have tackled an even steeper hill. What a crazy thought! Otherwise the ride was very, very mellow. That’s good and bad, I suppose. I’m really sore from the Pilates and Cardio Boot Camp classes I attended yesterday. I’m also bruised up (not badly) from falling over on my bike while clipped into my new clipless pedals. (Ouch! That hurt. I didn’t lose any flesh, but I did bang up my left knee. It hurts to bend it or to walk on it after I’ve been siting for awhile. Phooey!) Overall, it was a really nice, social, easy-going ride, followed with a tasty Pluto’s salad. I suppose I should just be glad. Not everyday has to be hardcore, breakneck training, does it? I think I lose sight of that sometimes …
